Job Description

The Mechanic will be responsible for fault diagnosis, preventive maintenance, and corrective repair of automotive equipment, including trucks, buses, and light vehicles. The role requires in-depth knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems to ensure optimal vehicle reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct systematic diagnostics to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and related system faults using appropriate testing methods and tools.

  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering assemblies, suspension, and exhaust systems.

  • Perform disassembly and reassembly of vehicle components to facilitate inspection, repair, or replacement of sub-components.

  • Undertake engine servicing, tune-ups, and performance optimization across heavy and light-duty vehicles.

  • Diagnosing and repair HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.

  •   Support overhaul and replacement of major drivetrain components, including engines, gearboxes, differentials, and associated assemblies.

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and service transmission systems, including gear trains, hydraulic pumps, and couplings.

  • Conduct field service interventions, including roadside breakdown response and recovery support where required.

  • Identify defective components and execute repair or replacement in line with manufacturer specifications and workshop standards.

  •  Assist in spare parts identification, requisition, and inventory coordination.

  • Maintain accurate service records and provide technical feedback to support maintenance planning.

  • Ensure strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards and company policies (BSLL).

  • Perform additional technical duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) – minimum mean grade pass or equivalent Technical Education qualification.

  • Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Diploma is an added advantage).

  • Trade Test Certification from the Ministry of Labour (Motor Vehicle Mechanic).

  • Minimum 3 years’ practical experience in automotive repair and maintenance (mixed fleet preferred).

  • Valid driving license.

  • Proven competence in mechanical diagnostics, component overhaul, and system troubleshooting
